Public Transport
We're blessed with a bewildering array of public transport options here at The Squirrels...
Train: We're just ten minutes walk away from the Lewisham mainline / DLR station.
Blackheath mainline station is also only ten minutes away but offers a reduced service in comparrison with Lewisham.
Bus: There are three bus routes that operate from right outside our doors!
- The 108 goes from Stratford to Lewisham station.
- The 89 goes from Slade Green to Lewisham station and the 54 goes somewhere else.
- The 54 goes from Woolwich to Elmers End.
Parking
The road turning into The Squirrels is an adopted highway. This means that it technically belongs to the council.
The council is responsible for the road but not the pavement. Hence, any damage to the pavement is The Squirrels' responsibility.
The road is council responsibility and so anyone can park on this piece of road along the fence.
The cobbles on the road inidcate where council road ends and Squirrels' land begins.
Anyone parking beyond the cobble boundary is on Squirrels property and this is where the clamping zone begins.
Each flat is given one parking permit for the resident and one visitor's permit.
Please see our resident jazz funk expert Gary Baker in Flat 40 about car park issues.
Refuse Collection
This takes place early on Friday morning.
When decorating, please ensure that your fitters remove old baths, WC's basins, radiators, corrugated iron, windows and sinks etc.
The same can be said about furniture, mattresses, television sets and refrigerators / freezers.
The standard refuse collection will not take these items sol please do not leave them in the bin area.
If you need to get rid of big stuff, then please ring Lewisham Directteam on 020 8690 4366 and ask for the refuse / cleaning department for details.
Each household is permitted one free collection per year.
There are recycling bins at the rear (down the hill) of the Squirrels.
Become a member of the Residents' Association
In order to become a member of the Squirrels Residents' Association, you must pay a smaill subscription every year.
This is discussed at the Annual General Meeting and set accordingly.
At present, the fee is £3 - to be paid to Paul Sinden in flat 35. The money helps to cover the cost of postage and photocopying.
This enables you to attend open meetings and vote at general meetings and vote in ballots. You can be a resident owner or tenant - both qualify as 'residents'.
Under the current terms of The Squirrels constitution, a non-resident owner cannot be an association member - therefore they cannot vote at meetings.
However, many owners like to keep in touch with Squirrels news by receiving the newsletter - which as well as being posted on this site, can also be sent by email.
If you'd like to receive it, please contact squirrelschair@aol.com
